The coffee detective

It’s time to revise any superlatives about cappuccinos and lattes upward.

I had been relying on mostly French sources for my coffee fix and, truthfully, many of them were terrific.

Along comes month-old Tozzo on 2d Avenue just off 78th Street and it exceeds all my expectations.

Tozzo serves Italian coffees; more specifically Sicilian specialties, which include sweet confections, and soft bread on which prosciutto and mozzarella are fabulously tasty.

On the top of my ballot, it’s the latte. A particularly outstanding drink served like the old Lower East Side standard tea in a “gless.”

Its arrival surprised me: a heavy beveled soda-fountain tumbler filled to the tippy top with a warming brown beverage.

I will say this unequivocally- this was the best latte I have ever enjoyed.
