I think I may have uncovered the source at this storefront at 444 E 81.

The birdhouses that decorate trees on several nearby streets may originate from this location.

Some rows of houses have an innate appeal as this block does to me. In our New York the row can be adjacent to a high rise or a group of unrelated brownstones. This all gives us the brilliant visual kaleidoscope I love.
